Lady of the Lake

Pet Shop Boys meet Lady Gaga as Seattle artist Jess Floam lures you in with her haunting melodies in her new Halloween single "Lady of the Lake". With a raw edge like Sinead O'Connor or Ethel Cain and catchy pop chorus that is reminiscent of old school 90s Madonna it is sure to ensnare the hearts of its next victims. The song sounds like the prom song from Starship Troopers. The music video / visualizer is inspired by The Ring (see above).

With a smooth groove, hot punchy drums and some nice pop sensibilities, Jess’ siren-like voice grabs the listener with a lot of personality. The vocal and lyrical composition brings a stronger sense of the mythological figure of the "Lady of the Lake" as a metaphor for transformation, mystery, acceptance and the unknown, exploring the duality between the reception of the aquatic element and the immersion in deep emotions. There is a narrative of liberation: letting go of earthly moorings to indulge in a mysterious and sovereign presence, with a deep and intense beauty. The switch between the more restrained sections and the pop chorus gives the song a fun theatrical pull. The Halloween mood is clear without taking over every part of the arrangement.

A thick fog of moody dark atmosphere lingers. The water is chill and calm and dangerously inviting. The aesthetic sound brings a more environmental and ethereal line, with more intense layers of an echo effect, giving the feeling of a more open and humid space. It features a production that brings more fluid synthesizer textures of an ethereal touch and a more saturated and distorted guitar line. The synths keep the track eerie without making it gloomy. The rhythm is fluid and rich with a hazy vibe while Jess Floam’s vocals pierce through the fog with a strong intense tone that captures the listener’s attention. Lady of the Lake balances between the strange and catchy. Enjoy the playful darkness and mystery that captivates from beginning to end.
